Transportation to the Beach. Visitors were transported for their holidays at Horseneck beaches by horse and wagon, on horseback, or on foot. The name "Horseneck" is believed to be a corruption of "Hassenegk", an Indian name for Westport's long, sandy beaches. Some popular thought holds that the name derives from the topographical shape of the beach.
