006-500.jpg

Chopping Firewood. An illustration of how firewood warms twice: in the cutting and carrying as well as the burning. Chopping wood would be a daily chore in order to cook, bake, heat water as well as the home during cold weather. The energy to make useable lengths of the tree-size logs would certainly have warmed the chopper. Note the background of fields separated by stonewalls extending down to the River.
