The Bridge at the Head of Westport Village spans the East Branch of the Westport River which is known also as the Noquochoke River. Water power from the river operated saw mills, grist mills, boat building, and other businesses to support the whaling industry of William Rotch, Jr. of New Bedford and prompted both residential and commercial growth of this village.
