063.JPG

Trafford Mansion at East Beach. Shown in this ca. 1908 photo is one of three summer cottages on East Beach enjoyed by the Trafford family. From the 1870s, folks from nearby towns built summer cottages along the shore to escape the heat.

The Trafford homes were sturdily constructed as can be seen from this photo. During the 1938 hurricane. lives were lost because the homes were considered strong enough to withstand the storm which demolished the homes and businesses along East Beach.

Depending on sand erosion from tide and waves, small chunks of foundation or cemented cobble, remnants of the demolished structures, occasionally become visible today.
