Westport Historical Society presents a conversation with Westport author Dawn Tripp. Her most recent book, Game of Secrets, continues her theme of seamlessly weaving Westport history with fiction. This program will explore the author’s sources of inspiration, her sources of research, special themes of Westport’s history, and the broader challenges of creating fiction. Please come with your own questions and ideas for this discussion.
Dawn Tripp describes how the idea for her new novel evolved:
“I had three images in my head: a 14 year old boy driving fast down an unfinished highway in a borrowed car; two women playing Scrabble; and two lovers, a man and a woman, meeting in an old cranberry barn. I had already filled a notebook when an older man I knew from town told me a story of a skull that surfaced back in the ‘60s out of a truckload of gravel fill, a neat bullet hole in the temple.”
Game of Secrets has received praise as “drop-dead Yankee storytelling” (Minneapolis Star Tribune) and as "a page-turning thriller--a game of Scrabble helps two families spell out the history of a small-town murder." (Better Homes and Gardens).
Dawn Tripp graduated from Harvard with a BA in literature. She lives in Westport with her husband and sons. She is the author of the novels Moon Tide and The Season of Open Water, which won the Massachusetts Book Award for Fiction.
