Nathaniel (Nate) Atwater will give a talk entitled “12,000 Years on the Land” to the Westport Historical Society on Thursday, August 18, 2005 at the Bell School, 25 Drift Rd., Head of Westport. In this talk he will display specimens from Westport collections for audience viewing – the audience is urged to bring their own artifacts for viewing and discussion. Nate gave this talk to great acclaim to the Westport Land Conservation Trust, and we felt it would be a good opportunity for others also to hear him.
Nate Atwater is a retired professor at UMD and a former President of the Little Compton Historical Society. He has been collecting Indian artifacts for many years along with his daughter Dora Millikin. Both are real experts on the Native American presence in this area.
