General & Mrs. Tom Thumb

On Thursday, November 18 at 7:30 P. M. at the Bell School (25 Drift Rd., Head of Westport), Dorothy Thayer, Director of the Middleborough Historical Museum, will give a talk on "General & Mrs. Tom Thumb" (illustrated). The program will present the life of the famous "little people" Charles Sherwood Stratton and Mercy Lavinia Warren Bump, who performed for P. T. Barnum in the mid to late 1800's. Lavinia was born and raised in Middleborough. After their marriage she and Tom built a mansion in Middleborough. After Tom's death in 1883 Lavinia was married for a second time and became known as Countess Magri.
