Annual Meeting & Program October 14
The Annual Meeting of the Westport Historical Society will take place at the Bell School, 25 Drift Rd., Head of Westport, at 7:30 on Thursday, October14. The meeting will be brief. At 8:00, after the meeting, David Cole and Betty Slade will give a talk: "Birds and Birders in Westport - Then and Now." Refreshments will be served. Please call 508-636-6011 for reservations.

Pete Baker honored
Pete Baker received an award as a Local History Hero at the recent annual meeting of the Bay State Historical League. The citation reads: "Anne (Pete) Baker, for her contributions to the Westport Historical Commission and for some 40 years of investigation and documentation of historic sites and structures, and preservation and restoration of antique buildings. With a curiosity about how lives were lived in relation to the structures people built in past centuries, she has honed an eye for the artisanry of historic structural details and a keen appreciation of the integrity of people who achieved technical mastery of materials with hand tools. Her book Collecting Houses: 17th Century Houses, 20th Century Adventure, shares this passion." (A review of this book appears elsewhere in this issue). In picture, W. F.
