19th Century Westport (and beyond) in 3D!
7:30 PM Thursday August 20th
Westport Middle School Auditorium
400 Old County Road, Westport
Westport Historical Society presents a 3D projection program of late 19th century stereo views of Westport and surrounding areas. Experience an old technology reborn and see an eclectic collection of images including the Charlton Estate, whaling scenes, and even the moon! When stereo photography first gained popularity, it was a parlor entertainment. New technology allows us to take these historical 3D images, convert them to transparency, and project them for public viewing. We’ll provide the glasses!
Ned Connors, historic preservation consultant, will explain the science behind stereo views and will showcase some of his own modern day stereo views. This program is a collaboration between Rhode Island Historical Society and Westport Historical Society. Historical images used in this presentation are from the collection of the New Bedford Whaling Museum, Westport Historical Society and private collections.
